Kathy’s Sense of Style!
I traveled to many destinations as a single woman. I could easily find a friend who was interested in an adventure. My first excursion was to Italy. I was a senior in high school. I remember being particularly drawn to the fine details of the architecture. Maybe that’s why I have an “eye” for detail in my work. Much of my work is influenced by my travels abroad. Texture and the various shapes found in ancient buildings and ruins drives my creativity.
You might recognize this image at the top of the page, the Trevi Fountain, a famous landmark in Rome. They say if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the water, you will return.
Pictured here is St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. It was bombed during WW II. My most favorite city. I remember the day very well. We toured in the morning and had the afternoon to shop and sight see on our own. I lived up to the expression “shop til you drop”. I bought an enamel ring, little did I know then that I would be making enamel jewelry! https://kathyavicolli.com/jewelry/round-cloisonne-pendant/
At a restaurant of our choosing, both our entree’s included a fried egg, supposedly, a custom. Never did find out the story to that.
We spent the evening sitting outside the Opera House, listening to the music and taking in the sights around us. Before heading back to our hotel room, my friend and I stopped at a café for Viennese pastry. We had a full and exciting day in Vienna!
