Description

The inspiration for this enamel wild butterfly pendant came from a desire within to challenge myself. For days, I thought about what my project would be. Nothing was speaking to me. When, low and behold, as I was thumbing through a copy of National Geographic, given to me by a friend, there on the back cover was this beautiful winged insect.
Once I read the story about this insect, I new I had to pay my respect.
I hope I did her justice.
With a body length 3.1 inches & forewing length 4.7 inches, Queen Alexandra’s birdwing is the largest butterfly in the world. The forest habitat these rare butterflies depend on is quickly vanishing and they also fall victim to an international trade in dried species.
