Enamel Ancient Art
Enamel is an ancient art dating back as far as the 11th century.
Vitreous Enamels are finely ground glass particles.
These tiny particles are applied to metal, usually copper, silver or gold.
When fired at very high temperature, 1400°F, these glass particles are fused together creating a smooth colored surface. It is fascinating that enamel as an ancient art is still around today. A lot has changed over the centuries. But, it is still a very sensitive and at times a challenging art.
I purchase my enamel supplies from Enamel Art Supply, very friendly and always eager to accommodate.

We have several artists in my family who use paint as their medium.
I see my enameled jewelry as a painting, using glass particles instead.
