About Kathy Avicolli – Jewelry Artist

Kathy Avicolli - Jewelry ArtistKathy Avicolli – Jewelry Artist has spent the majority of her work life in the healing art of Esthetics, the study of skin and its relation to beauty. Well into her profession she had a desire to try something new, but still practice her work. She always enjoyed arts and crafts as a child. On a whim she joined a bead weaving jewelry class. That’s when she knew she found her new love. With beading being in the somewhat distant past, she has explored many mediums in the jewelry field. Today she works predominately with metal clay and semi-precious stones. Her site allows her to share her creations with others.
Additionally, she blogs about her latest creativity and the inspiration behind the piece.

As an Esthetician, Kathy Avicolli – Jewelry Artist spends quiet time with her clients helping them overcome whatever concerns them.
Most of her work involves the connection between two when together. That connection is what she refers to as energy.
She allows that same energy to become part of what she creates, believing that the recipient will feel connected to the maker.

Every jewelry item she creates is a work of art, meticulously executed to perfection.
Her intention is that when she releases a piece of jewelry to you, you will be
blessed in receiving as she was in making.

Enjoy your work of art and wear it in good health!

My Artistic Journey…Becoming A Jewelry Artist

I suppose my artistic journey began as a little girl…bronze-pearl-framed-art
I spent Saturday’s with my Dad. Mom worked for B. Altman’s, it was an upscale department store, working Saturday’s was a must. About once a month, we would drive to the Bazaar of all Nations. It was an enclosed building with open stalls, an original Mall concept. You could buy all sorts of things, hardware, custom made picture frames, clothing, shoes, baked goods, paint by number and model airplane kits. We always went straight to the Craft Store, because Dad had a lot of hobbies. I bet I inherited my artistic ability from him.
One time, as I skimmed the aisles, I spotted a tube of Indian seed beads. They were so colorful and pretty. I asked Dad if I could get them, and of course he said yes.

Leaving the Bazaar, we grabbed some sticky buns for Sunday breakfast and headed home with that tube in my hand. I knew just what I was going to do with them, the dawning of my artistic journey.
We pulled into the driveway, my feet barely touched the ground, I was headed  straight for my mother’s sewing machine. With needle and thread in hand, I strung enough beads to wrap around my wrist. Now what? I didn’t know how to finish it, I was so disappointed!

In the years that followed, I learned how to sew, crochet, crewel and cross stitch embroidery, ceramics, quilting, decoupage and 3D Art. I didn’t touch another bead for nearly 45 years, alas, these were the building blocks for my artistic journey!

My Education

In my mid twenties, I enrolled in Cosmetology School. I immersed myself in the field of Esthetics, the study of skin. I blossomed and became very skilled in the trade. And so, my career began.
I spent twenty three years working for a well known Day Spa before launching a solo home based practice.
During that transition, I had a yearning to do something else, but what??
A dear friend asked me to join her in a knitting class. Hmm, I could make myself something, I liked that idea. So, off we went. I made socks and scarves, texting gloves, felted hats and totes, leg warmers and boot toppers, wraps and ponchos. I became a knitting fool.
One evening, the instructor mentioned she was having someone from the local bead store teach a bead weaving technique. I was intrigued. And as they say, the rest is history.

Among these pages you will find the heart and soul of my work. Along with bead work (mostly Kumihimo), https://kathyavicolli.com/kumihimo-braid-technique/ I have experience with traditional Metalsmithing, Keum-boo, Metal Clay, https://kathyavicolli.com/what-is-metal-clay/ , the New Mokumé Gané, Two Part Epoxy Clay and Enamel.

I hope you like what you see.
Again, thanks for stopping by…
